G20 Civil20India2023 Initiatives

In a significant milestone, when India took over the presidency of the G20 – a premier forum for international economic cooperation – it marked an opportune moment to reintroduce purpose and values into the global economy for a better tomorrow. As an official engagement group of the G20, Civil20 provided a platform to deliberate on common challenges facing the world and to propose solutions for global betterment.

Karma Foundation was proud to collaborate with the working committee on "Diversity, Inclusion, Mutual Respect" of G20 (Civil20India 2023), believing that these principles were essential for a thriving society, peaceful coexistence, and the common development of all nations. To highlight the strength of these values, Karma organized programs engaging different groups on the sidelines of the G20 summit. Based on discussions and suggestions from these events, white papers were prepared and presented to the think tanks and governments of the G20 nations.

  • Provide inmates with meaningful skill sets and employment opportunities.

  • Ensure a dignified source of income, even while they are in prison.

  • Support the higher education of children of women prisoners.

Mission O2

Amidst an excruciating second wave of corona virus in India, when our fellow citizens were gasping for something as basic as Oxygen and were struggling for every breathe, we launched #MissionO2 with a vision to augment the health and oxygen infrastructure of the country.

The imported cylinders filled with medical grade Oxygen were distributed (free of cost) to the patients and charitable institutions in India, particularly remote and rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and slums of Delhi.

Alongside, mobile Oxygen banks were set up in

  • Haldwani, Uttarakhand

  • Dhampur, Uttar Pradesh

Vayu

To purify the air around us, we introduced Hawan Cups, which are made with love and care by women from humble backgrounds.

A study carried out by a team of scientists at National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) claimed that smoke emitted during Hawans reduces air-borne bacteria to a large extent, minimising possibility of infectious diseases.

International Research Journal of America (Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine) has also recognised the benefits of performing yajna.

It is also a means to attain mental peace and to spread positivity.

Through this project, we intend to support women-in-need while protecting the environment.

If you too want to enjoy the benefits of 'Hawan Cups', reach out to us.

Pad Up a Girl

Menstruation is a natural phenomenon, which affects a woman’s life, without being the only thing about her. The stigma around period and menstruation-related talks is real and sickening. All around the world women are being held back in life and even put in danger, simply because of their period.

Period poverty is a global issue. It affects an estimated 500 million people worldwide.

(as per the study published by BMC Women’s Health Trusted Source in 2021)

Access to period products is the basic right of every woman and under this project we distribute sanitary pads to women and girls, while educating them on hygiene & proper use of period products. We are confident that this will be instrumental in ensuring that our daughters lead a dignified life.

Youth Dialogue & Discussions on Social Issues

Youth of today are not only the future policy makers but they are partners of today. They are the most effective agents of change in the society, who have the ability to rise above regional and religious conflicts and work towards the creation of an egalitarian and progressive nation. It is therefore important to channelize youth power for nation building because they can truly propagate the spirit, essence and concept of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'. With this belief, we organised Youth Dialogue with the powerful youth voices from different parts of the country.

Similarly, we have been regularly organising workshops and webinars on issues of social importance including Diversity & Inclusion, Generation Equality, Impact of Covid-19 on various segments of society, Roles & Responsibilities of Citizens etc alongwith celebration of festivals to understand their importance in our everyday life.

COVID-19, an infectious disease caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, spread rapidly across the globe. While countries, including India, took strong measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 through better diagnostics and treatment, vaccination is the only long term solution to contain the spread of the infection.

In view of the existing situation, Karma partnered with local authorities to expedite the vaccination drive in the country which will provide a lasting solution by enhancing immunity of the populace.

Rasoi

Since the beginning of the pandemic, when the first lockdown was announced by the government to ensure the safety of the people, Karma Rasoi was launched to feed the most deprived communities. At that time the daily wage earners were struggling to access one full square meal for their family and it had become a question of dying of hunger or dying of virus.

To support them in this global crisis, we stepped up our efforts and distributed dry ration kits, cooked meals and other essential items (PPE Kits, sanitisers, masks, sanitary pads etc.) to daily wagers, migrant laborers, rag-pickers, house-helps, street vendors as well as to the healthcare workers, elderly in need and sick patients in collaboration with other NGOs and civil society. More than 10,000 families in distress in the slums of Delhi, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Odisha were provided relief.
