Is Governance Young India’s Cup Of Tea?

  • Yes, youth has the power to bring about a social change

  • No, youth should focus on economic growth

You can vote for more than one answer.

We would all agree that youth of today are the future policy makers. However, we must acknowledge that youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the partners of today.

They are the most effective agents of positive change in the world, who have the ability to rise above regional and religious conflict and work towards the creation of an egalitarian, peaceful and progressive world.

It is therefore imperative to reflect on the role of our #YuvaShakti to find pragmatic global solutions for the wellbeing of all, by their active participation in governance and democracy.

On this International Youth Day, I can say from my experience of interacting with young adults from different parts of the world that youth of every country have similar aspirations, similar insecurities, similar dreams and a similar vision for the future. And therefore, I strongly believe that youth cooperation is very important for building international relations.

Youth leadership must be harnessed to bring greater understanding of problems and issues that next century poses for the world. New ideas must be discussed to continue cooperation amongst the youth to facilitate debate and discussion to come up with out of box solution to the world problems. I say this because I believe that young leaders tend to embrace change, think creatively, have a lot of ideas and are result driven. They are ambitious, optimistic and have the will power to be a part of the change they wish to see in the world.

We cannot deny the fact that the world today is facing various challenges ranging from the environmental pollution, cyber & space warfare, economic slowdown, terrorism, poverty, inequality, violence, regional and religious conflicts. Simultaneously, we must acknowledge that most of the present day challenges are due to historical reasons / past actions.

And therefore I see a huge potential in the youth to bring about a positive change in the world, since they were not directly involved in the historical context through their actions. As a result, it is relatively easy for the youngsters to get over the past differences and look out for mutually amicable solutions, through discussions and diplomacy while thinking of the larger good of the society and human race.

Greater understanding of each others aspirations, mutually beneficial cooperation and working together on issues of global significance in political, economic, cultural, environmental and social spheres, is the foundation for a better world. We must identify areas of cooperation in the domain of trade and economy, cultural exchanges, scientific and technological advancements, climate change, security and counter terrorism, as well as political cooperation in bilateral and multilateral issues of importance. Only then we would be able to replace competition with collaboration and pledge our commitment to build a brighter and greener future for our citizens together.

Therefore, it is imperative that societies must create the platforms and pathways that give youth a voice and a chance to pursue and have a real stake in shaping the policies that will impact our shared future.

As a young voice of world’s largest democracy, I strongly believe that it is important to channelize youth power for a better tomorrow because our generation can truly propagate the spirit, essence and concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘One World, One Family, One Future’.

Swami Vivekananda said –

“My faith is in the younger generation, the modern generation, out of them will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem, like lions.”

Reverberating his word, I have immense faith that the youth of today would ignite the world with their skill & knowledge and be a part of global movement for building a just world order.

It is a great honour, yet it is also a great responsibility. Therefore, to fulfil our duty as responsible global citizens, let us pledge to focus on our #Karma – thoughts, words and actions; to make an impact in the world, for building a future of our imagination. We must constantly remind ourselves that every living being in the universe is capable of survival but as a responsible citizen, our mission in life should not be merely to survive, but to create a legacy.

Good Governance is the foundation of a functional democracy. “Good Governance” entails being accountable, transparent, responsive and collaborative to fulfill the existing and the future needs of every citizen of the country.

Late Prime Minister Atal ji said –

“Empowering the individual means empowering the nation. And empowerment is best served through rapid economic growth with rapid social change.”

And thus it is important to work towards the socio-economic development of the world for a glorious future for humanity.

As citizens of the nation deeply committed to democracy and multilateralism, we must always remember the opening and last sentences of our preamble “We the People…. adopt, enact and give to ourselves this Constitution”. This signifies that the rights and duties are ultimately vested in the hands of the people, irrespective of age, gender, caste, creed etc.

‘We the People of India’ is not just a phrase; this statement denotes the power that lies with each one of us.

As a youth leader, it is our foremost duty to not only believe in ourselves and our abilities but also make a promise to contribute positively towards building a progressive world. We have to remember, that we are not just becoming agents of change by participating in governance but also inspiring millions of others across the globe to follow our footsteps.

And therefore, I wish to call upon all my young colleagues across the globe, to participate in this journey of building a peaceful, progressive, egalitarian, just and green world which is free from regional & religious conflicts, inequality, pollution, violence, corruption and terrorism thereby laying the foundation for inclusive, participatory and sustainable development of the world.
