New Year Message

In 2020, we did see darkness. Since the beginning of last year, entire world has been fighting against a common invisible enemy. But 2021 comes with new hopes, new possibilities and a new life.

This year we are hopeful to win over this pandemic as countries across the globe are gearing up to vaccinate their citizens against the corona virus. With the global case load nearing 75 million, the world is racing against time to immunise its population against a virus that has been wreaking havoc for more than a year now.

In terms of preparedness, Government of India is set to run the world's largest vaccination program in 2021 and working in tandem with governments of the States and Union Territories. Our country has also developed a mobile app called Co-WIN where people would be able to register for vaccination and to monitor delivery of the vaccine.

However, people still have many concerns with regard to vaccination. While the government is doing its best to dispel fear, the role of civil society and NGOs is crucial in this regard.

NGOs and Non Profit Organisations are a kind of bridge between the government and the common people and therefore we have a great responsibility on our shoulders to raise the valid concerns of the society and become a voice for the most vulnerable irrespective of the nationality, ethnicity, religion, colour, gender etc.

Also, NGOs must come forward to disseminate correct information about vaccination to the masses. This is particularly important because civil society enjoy people’s trust and the message conveyed by them make for two-way communication, thereby avoiding any confusion or misinformation. This leads to better understanding amongst the people and smoother implementation of the program.

So as responsible global citizens, NGOs must become a pillar of support to their respective governments.

In the month of January, we also celebrate our Republic Day to commemorate the establishment of the Constitution of India, which is an embodiment of fundamental regulations and principles according to which the country and its people are supposed to work. The Founders of our Constitution believed in the wisdom of its population.

The opening and last sentences of the preamble:

“We, the people... adopt, enact and give to ourselves this Constitution” signifies the power is ultimately vested in the hands of the people.

So, as we enter 2021, let us resolve to be the change we want to see in the world. After all “the world is one family” and this is the core Indian philosophy as we believe in “#VasudhaivaKutumbakam “

I’m sure that together we will be able to cope with this pandemic soon and build a healthy, peaceful, progressive, egalitarian and just world.

“WE, the People” make the society. We have the power to make a difference by our actions. #KARMA
